Step 4: Do Some Initial Design Work
  • At this point you should have a host and a site builder. Now you must get the design going. Keep in mind, your site does not need to be perfect at first.
  • If you are going to use a site builder, now is the time to learn how to use it. It should make building a lot easier. If you are having trouble, contact your host or the maker of your builder. They should be able to help you through the learning curve trauma.
  • If you know a little html, you can get a template. Website templates are great because they give you all the graphics and the structure of a web page. All you have to do is enter in your content. Like I implied, with a template you only need to know a little html to structure your site. Here is a link for some free templates.
  • The most important thing in this step is speed! Why?...because the longer your site is up, the longer the search engines will be crawling it and the more they will be sending traffic to your site.
  • Part of this step is to include your keywords in the content. You want the keywords in you titles, your meta tags, and everywhere you can. It is ok to be redundant, people rarely notice, and the search engine spiders love it!

This step should not take you more than a week. Don't be a perfectionist yet, that will come after you follow the next steps.
